Read if you feel like your child isn’t unique…

Hint: The problem isn’t that they "lack" uniqueness…

I read the following comment in my Facebook group the other day:

“I always hear about how important showcasing my child’s uniqueness is, but the problem is they’re not super unique. They’re just a normal child”.

I hear this from parents often, and while I believe every child is unique, I also know this fear points to a deeper problem.

That is:

Most kids join extracurriculars just because they're expected to.

So they do the same activities as their peers to fit in or enroll in the activities that are supposed to impress colleges.

They never figure out what they really like or what they're good at.

So the problem isn’t that they lack uniqueness…

They are just disconnected from their innate talents, strengths, and personalities.

Their uniqueness will only shine through when they finally reconnect with things they naturally like and feel passionate about.

Best part?

A simple conversation can be a great place to start.

Ask them questions like:

  • Do you miss any activity from a few years ago?

  • What do you think you are good at?

  • Is there anything you look forward to doing this month?

  • What’s something you think the world needs more of?

  • Have you felt really passionate about anything recently?

Answering these questions can start interesting conversations and bring a lot of clarity to your child.

After all, some people go through their lives without thinking about or answering questions like these.

With that said, I’m curious to know if you have ever had these conversations with your kids.

If you have, how did it go? Did you encounter any challenges?

If not, why not? Do you feel anything is stopping you?
