How 11th grade can set your child up to win big (if you play it right)

When I talk to parents and students in 11th grade, I focus on these three key life skills.

Junior year in high school can be tough, but there’s a bright side that’s easy to miss:

The life skills that students develop along the way.

When I talk to parents and students in 11th grade, I focus on three key life skills.

  1. Managing Pressure

Many of the talented students I work with aren’t challenged by the standard high school curriculum.

That changes in Junior year, when the real challenges begin.

11th grade is usually when students start dealing with tough tasks, balancing priorities, and working under pressure.

If your child has big ambitions, this is just the beginning. The rigor only increases from here.

  1. Goal Setting and Achievement.

Every exam, project, and extracurricular activity is an opportunity for your child to set goals and achieve them.

The more they push themselves, the more they realize what they're capable of.

With every success, they feel more confident and want to push themselves even more.

  1. Project Management Skills.

Balancing studies, deadlines, leadership roles, and test prep takes good planning and time management.

Prioritizing, planning, and getting everything done on time? Those are lifelong skills.

These skills might even guide them toward their future career.

Did you know that skilled project managers are in high demand? It’s a great career path for students interested in STEM but not into coding or technical roles.

So if your child is in 11th grade, remind them that all this hard work is helping them grow and build skills they’ll use long after high school.

Looking at the big picture can make this tough year a bit easier.

And if you want your child to join a group of other ambitious 11th-grade students, the College Admissions Academy is the perfect place for them.

We kick off our group coaching session tomorrow, Sunday, September 29th.

We’ll go over the two most important things families must tackle in October.
