Check this weird college admissions “trick”

A choice most families find worth it in the long run?

Last week, I saw an interesting college admissions “trick” in a Facebook group.

I’ve heard about this trick before.

I’m not sure if the person who posted it was being sarcastic or not, but some people were taking it seriously, so I thought I should address it.

The trick?

"Move to a less competitive state to boost your kid's chances of getting in."

While this trick could work, it's not realistic for most families.

Especially when they are doing the exact opposite of this trick…

That is, aiming for better locations with more opportunities for their kids, like:

  • Better schools

  • More connections

  • Better extracurriculars

... yes, even if it means facing tougher competition.

It's a choice most families find worth it in the long run.

But here's the thing—in 2024, your child's physical location is only one factor that matters.

With screen time on the rise, their online world matters just as much.

Our kids must have good influences both online and offline.

After all, it's often said that your child is the average of the 5 people they spend the most time with.

That’s why I’m making community a big focus of my upcoming:

College Admissions Academy

It will be a place online where ambitious, talented, and goal-oriented students can meet and connect without the pressure of direct competition.

A place to learn, grow, and achieve goals together.

We welcomed our first group of founding members a few weeks ago, and the feedback has been amazing.

Since it was a small group, we focused on course content—and one of the main requests was to focus on improving the community aspect.

We hear you loud and clear!
