Admissions advice for well-rounded kids.

What to do if your child excels at many things, not just one.

Last week I spoke to a student named Ana...

She was struggling to decide which passions to highlight as she began working on her “brand” for college admissions.

This might sound familiar.

But a lot of the families I speak with run into this issue.

They have a talented, ambitious, and multifaceted student—who excels at many things, not just one.

So back to Ana’s story.

She felt conflicted because:

  • She loved debate club but was worried it wouldn't fit with her goal of becoming a doctor.

  • She is a gifted violinist… but felt the pressure to prioritize more "academic" extracurriculars.

  • She excelled in her computer science elective… but didn't want to be labeled a "tech kid".

Ideally, they should focus on activities that match their future goals, but there are some alternatives if they don't want to drop activities they love.

The key lies in how you present them.

There's a powerful technique used in film and theater that can help your child showcase their diverse talents without compromising their authenticity.

In Ana’s case, we used this technique to:

  • Emphasize her passion for science and her drive to help others.

  • Showcase her ability to problem-solve and communicate complex ideas.

  • And highlight supporting qualities like her creativity, discipline, and attention to detail.

It’s easy to see how it all ties together.

This powerful technique can help your child build a persuasive and clear Student Brandwithout giving up the activities they love!

And it’s just one of the many others I show you in the Student Brand Masterclass.

If your child feels torn between their passions or stressed about having to choose right now...
